Adam Birch is a passionate environmentalist based on Cape Town’s South Peninsula. HGis fascination with timber as a medium has led to his unique collection of carved functional sculptures. Birch frequently transformed discarded tree forks into curved seats - utilising the timber around the fork as functional planks of wood - cutting the tree back until only the fork remains.
As a passionate environmentalist, Birch is committed to only felling alien tree species. All Birch's pieces that do use indigenous wood have been created from trees that had already fallen. Birch created more than 150 large-scale timber sculptures for Xigera Safari Lodge, carved from fallen trees that were found on Xigera's own land. This collection is the largest project Birch has worked on in his 20-year career.
