One destination, 7 unbelievable experiences
Cape Town is a city rich in art, culture and history, with an abundance of natural beauty and outdoor adventure on the doorstep. But with so much to discover, it’s often hard to know where to begin. To help you make the most of all that South Africa’s ‘Mother City’ has to offer, here is our guide to the ‘Big 7’ must-see attractions of Cape Town.
Xigera is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta on the western edge of the Moremi Game Reserve. The whole gamut of Delta habitats are found in the surrounding area, including floodplains, waterways and lagoons. The road network has been designed to make use of the higher ground and our game drive vehicles have a raised suspension and bigger tires to allow us to drive to most of our area even when the flood rises.
The birdlife is excellent throughout the Xigera area and especially during our summer months from December through March. Waterfowl are present throughout the year and viewing of raptors is good. Pels fishing owl is generally resident on Xigera Island and an excursion to find them, when in the lodge, is really worthwhile.
Our general game is good with large herds of lechwe, impala and buffalo all found in the area. In addition to this we have tssessebe, zebra, reedbuck, warthog, hippo and crocodile in good numbers.
Elephant are found in the area all year round with a peak in August when the fruit of the fan palms ripen. Our predator viewing is also good with regular sightings of leopard, lion and wild dogs.
With more than 40 years’ experience as a specialist guide and a deep and personal knowledge of the area that surrounds Xigera, it would be Mike’s pleasure to share this with you on a private experience, together with one of our Xigera guides.
